Climate-neutral shipping by 2050 requires immediate action. The question is which green fuels to focus on. Ammonia is one of them, according to a new report.
The Synfuel research project brings together electrolysis and thermal gasification, and can transform biomass and wind energy into ‘green’ methanol, which can be used as bunker fuel and, after upgrading, as a substitute for diesel and jet fuel.
It is possible to produce much more biofuel from the same amount of biomass by combining electrolysis with biomass gasification.
Haldor Topsøe’s plant produces hydrogen using electrolysis based on patented technology developed in partnership with DTU. The process fits well with biogas upgrade.
DTU heads nine out of the 15 research projects that will receive funding from Innovation Fund Denmark. Two of those DTU-projects will be headed by DTU Energy.
