Project title: Electrochemical TEM experiments on solid oxide cells

Project description:

Driven by the necessity to reduce environmental pollution caused by burning fossil fuels, the development of new electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices is of great significance. Designing high-performance SOEC is one of the key parts. Through this strategy, excess energy can be stored electrochemically by converting electrical energy to chemical fuels. This project makes it possible for us to fabricate a tiny SOEC in the TEM chamber which has similar surroundings to the real operation cell. Combining (in-situ) ETEM, EIS and MEMS technologies together, this project focuses on understanding degradation mechanisms of electrodes and electrolytes, and providing critical influence of additives or composition of components used in SOC.
